NETGAMERS IRC RULES Status: Version 1.0 beta J Rev: 2002-11-10 This document has been written to aid the Netgamers IRC Staff, official supporters and the users on the network in general. It contains details of acceptable behaviour on the Netgamers network and what users can expect to happen should they or someone else behave unacceptably -------------------------------- TOC -------------------------------- Section 1 - Acceptable Behaviour Section 2 - Actions to deal with unacceptable behaviour Section 3 - Complaints Section 4 - That bit at the end -------------------------------- TOC -------------------------------- ----------------------------- 1.0) Acceptable behaviour ----------------------------- The Netgamers IRC network is intended for use by people of all ages, sexes and backgrounds. As such there are some simple rules, most of which are courtesy and common sense anyway, to help people get along: 1.1) Users Users are expected to follow the network rules so that everyone can use the network relatively peacefully. These include: * No ban evasion - If you are banned from a channel it is because you are not welcome there. Ban evasion will not be tolerated. * Abusing other users - If you abuse other users it will be suggested that they /ignore you. However if you persist in doing so action will be taken. * Flooding - Flooding, or using bot’s functions to flood will result in removal. This includes the advertising of urls of any kind. * Encouraging others to break network rules - This will be dealt with more severely than if you break them yourself. * Channel rules - Breaking a channel’s rules because there are no ops to stop you will be dealt with. Anyone deliberately breaking channel rules with the goal of getting banned will also be dealt with, as a ban is clearly inappropriate. * Warez porn - Warez and porn are not allowed on the Netgamers network. Users found trading or requesting either will be removed. * Impersonating - Impersonating network officials or officials from partners will not be tollerated * Wasting time - Wasting a network official’s time will result in removal. Contrary to popular believe we do have things to do as well. 1.2) Bots Bots are generally allowed on the Netgamers IRC network. However they are restricted by the following rules and guidelines: * No floodbots - Flooding of any form is not welcome on the Netgamers network and bots of this type will be removed. * No clonebots - Any host with more than 3 connections will be g-lined automatically. This is to prevent users causing a nuisance by loading many clones of themselves. If you have a legitimate reason for needing more than 3 connections ask in #feds about an exception from this rule. * No advertising bots - Bots which join random channels and advertise urls, games, other networks or, in fact, anything will be removed. You may use a bot in your own channels, as well as others who’s owners don’t object but please don’t inflict it on people who don’t want it. * Bots should have an identifiable owner - if a bot is causing problems we would rather resolve them with the owner than have to remove the bot. A way to identify the owner, such as using the owner’s nick as a real name aids us in doing this, aiding you if your bot goes wrong. 1.3) Channels * Channels that fit these critiria: #*mp3*, #*warez*, #*sex*; #*fuck*, #*cunt* are banned from the network, and may not be joined/created/registered. These are obviously not related to the games. 1.4) Catch all As well as the above rules any other behaviour that an oper deems inappropriate will be dealt with. ----------------------------- 2.0) Actions to deal with unacceptable behaviour ----------------------------- If you are caught breaking the network rules, or behaving inappropriately, you will be dealt with. Also, if you think someone is behaving badly and an oper agrees they will be dealt with. In either case the problem will be dealt with: * Warning - The offender will be warned and asked to stop breaking the rules * Kill - The offender will be temporarily removed from the network * Gline - The offender will be banned from the network for a period. This period will depend on the offence and their previous history and is the decision of the oper concerned. * If someone is caught Gline evading they may be reported to their isp’s abuse division. If a user is in serious breach of the rules an oper may, at their discression, skip warning or killing the user in the interests of the network ----------------------------- 3.0) Complaints ----------------------------- If you think an oper has abused their access in some way, or acted unfairly towards you in an official capacity then you should e-mail abuse@netgamers.org with a log of them doing so and as much detail as possible about why you think they’ve acted inappropriately. ----------------------------- 4.0) That bit at the end ----------------------------- * This is a set of guidelines and open to interpretation depending on circumstances. As such the spirit of the rules is more important than the wording and they shall be acted on in this context * This set of rules is not complete. As such opers may act on situations not covered by them if they judge there is a need to do so. * This set of rules may be altered by a vote of the Admin committee
